How do I look up what books are required for a class?
I know there is a place to look up by course what books are needed but I forgot where. You have the option to buy through this site, also.
Answer
You should check CBC bookstore's website to see the list of textbooks for your classes.
1. http://www.cbcbookstore.com
2. Click on "Textbooks" - "Find Textbooks"
3. Select a Campus Term
4. Select a department, course, and section
5. Click "Add COURSE TO LIST"
6. Click on the blue button "GET YOUR BOOKS"
7. You should see if there are books that are required or optional for the courses.
If you couldn't find your course, there might a few reasons:
a. Your instructor has not sent the textbook information to the bookstore. In that case, email your instructor to ask. Here is the CBC employee directory.
b. There are two types of courses, e.g. For Communication & Speech, some courses have the prefix "CMST", others have the prefix "CMST&". Make sure you try both with and without the & to check for courses.
Other options for textbooks:
1. Sometimes, there are rentals that maybe more affordable.
2. Used copies is another possibility.
3. If you are Running Start, you might qualify for free book loans.
4. If you are not a Running Start student, you might be able to check out a reserve book starting the 3rd week of the quarter.
5. If you are waiting for your books to arrive, the library might have the first one or two chapters on e-reserve.
6. In rare cases, the library might have a copy of the textbook as an online book free to you. We would have to check title by title.
Let us know if we can help with the process.
Sincerely,
CBC Librarians
