How do I use ReadSpeaker with Library eBooks?

Answer

We know that sometimes you might prefer to hear your eBook, rather than read it. While we don't typically offer audiobooks, you can use ReadSpeaker to make almost any eBook an audiobook!

The process listed below will require you to:

  • Create a MyEBSCOhost account
  • Download and Install Adobe Digital Editions

Step 2: Open an eBook

Keeping ReadSpeaker open in one tab, open your desired eBook in another tab. Select "Full Download".

Step 3: MyEBSCOhost Account

You will need to create an EBSCO account or sign-in if you already have one. This account can use whichever email account you would like, but we recommend using your CBC email.

Step 4: Download Adobe Digital Editions

You must have Adobe Digital Editions installed on your computer in order to open a full download of an eBook.

Step 5: Authorize your computer

When you open the downloaded ebook file in Adobe Digital Editions for the first time, you'll be asked to authorize your computer. Be sure to select "I want to authorize my computer without an ID"

Step 6: Open the eBook in Adobe Digital Editions

Your book should import immediately. If it doesn't, find the file in your downloads and open it again.

Step 7: Copy the Desired Text

You now have access to the whole book in Adobe Digital Editions.

Select the text you want to be read aloud to you and copy it.

Step 8: Open ReadSpeaker

ReadSpeaker is available to all CBC students, faculty, and staff. You can access it via the "TextAid" link in the left side menu on any Canvas page.

In ReadSpeaker, select "New Text" from the menu on the left. Then, paste it into ReadSpeaker and hit play.
